Bangladesh U-19 team made a disappointing start on the opening day of the lone four-day Youth Test as they were bowled out for 162 runs in their first innings against Afghan counterparts at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Skipper Aich Mollah scored the highest 39 runs while opener Iftikher Hossain made 37 runs but none of the other batters could make decent contributions with the bat as the hosts were bundled out in 63 overs after they elected to bat first. Afghan pacer Bilal Sami finished with 5-42 while leg-spinner Izharulhaq Naveed claimed 4-45 for the visitors.

Afghanistan, in reply, finished the day on 40-2 in 23 overs as they were still 122 runs behind Bangladesh’s first innings total. Opener Bilal Sayedi and skipper Ijaz Ahmed remained not out on 11 and eight runs respectively.
