Stocks edged marginally higher on Tuesday as investors were active on both sides of the trading fence.
DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 52.75 points or 0.73 per cent to settle at 7,258.
Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, went up to Tk 19.10 billion, which was 8.37 per cent higher than the previous day’s tally of Tk 17.63 billion.
Losers took a strong lead over the gainers, as out of 376 issues traded, 117 declined, 224 advanced and 35 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
A total number of 285,021 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with a trading volume of 458.23 million shares and mutual fund units.
Beximco - the flagship company of Beximco Group- continued to dominate the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 1.45 billion changing hands, followed by Beximco Pharma (Tk 924 million), Alif Manufacturing Company Ltd (Tk 613 million), LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Limited (Tk 556 million), SAIF Powertec Limited (Tk 475 million) and Maksons Spinning Mills Limited (Tk 450 million).
Pacific Denims Limited was the day’s top gainer with a 9.86 per cent rise, closely followed by International Leasing & Financial Services Ltd, Alif Manufacturing Company Ltd, Premier Leasing & Finance Limited, Maksons Spinning Mills Limited, Eastern Insurance Company Ltd, Bangladesh National Insurance Company Limited, FAS Finance & Investment Limited, The Peninsula Chittagong Limited and MIDAS Financing Ltd.
However, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) edged lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –losing 210.26 points to settle at 21,240 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 125.73 points to close at 12,746.
Of the issues traded, 100 declined, 194 advanced and 33 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city’s bourse traded 24.19 million shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Tk 702 million.
