Police arrested seven members of an organised gang, who stole export goods from covered vans during shipment, from Uttara and Cumilla on Friday.
They also recovered 4,705 pieces of stolen RMG goods and seized two covered vans.
AKM Hafiz Akhtar, Additional Commissioner of Police in the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said, “ Tejgaon zonal team arrested Razzak, Yusuf and Mainul, Khairul, along with stolen garments and a covered van from Uttara area of Dhaka on Friday”
According to the detainees, Al-Amin and Dulal were arrested along with stolen garments and a covered van from Nimsar area of Burichang police station in Cumilla district.
According to the information provided by them, the main ringleader of the gang Md Shahed alias Sylhete Sayed was arrested. There are 24 cases against the arrested Shahed in different police stations of the country including Dhaka and Chattogram. Shahed was imprisoned for a long time in 6 cases in Chattogram.
The arrested Shahed has stolen goods worth several thousand crores from more than 5,000 trucks / covered vans at different times, said the police officer.
The law enforcers recovered 4,705 stolen RMG goods from the arrestees during the drive.
