Huge adulterated medicines seized in city

Huge adulterated medicines and creams have been seized and three owners of pharmacies arrested in a massive raid on two drug markets at Mitford in the capital.

Lalbagh Detective Branch Division and the Directorate General of Drug Administration jointly conducted the drive on Saturday.

The three arrested were identified as Faisal Ahmed, Sumon Chandra Mallik and Liton Gazi.

Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (DB-Dhaka South) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, disclosed the information at a press briefing at the DMP media centre on Sunday.

Some 100 I-Pills, 160 pieces of Super Gold Kosturi, 3,000  pieces of Naproxen plus,  350 pieces of Betnovate-C, 1,000 pieces of Protobit, 115 boxes of ENO, 400 pieces of Sangra, 1,500 pieces of Periactin, 110 pieces of Moov, 30 Ring Guards, 500 pieces of Whitfield,  250 pieces of Nix Rubbing Balm, 300 pieces of Vix Cold Plus, 250 pieces of NIX Rubbing Balm, 300 pieces of Vix Cold Plus, 20 boxes of Vaporub and 420 boxes of Gacozism were seized from Medicine World, Aloknag Drug and Rafsan Pharmacy.

The officer said they conducted the raid on Sureshwari Medicine Plaza and Hazi Rony Medicine Market. They found the adulterated and banned medicine items at the three wholesale shops.

They arrested three owners of the pharmacies on charges of selling adulterated medicine and creams, he said.

A case was filed against the arrestees with Kotwali Police Station in the capital.
