Detective police have arrested Islamic preacher Mufti Rizwan Rafiqi on charges of instigating youths to stand against the government through his speech.

A team of Motijheel Detective Branch under Dhaka Metropolitan Police captured him from a residence at Bashabo in the capital on Friday night.

AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (DB) of the DMP, briefed reporters on the matter on Saturday.

“We recently noticed that Rafiqi was delivering speech at different platforms, seeking release of the arrested leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. He instigated youths in this regard, so he was arrested,” he said.

The police officer said he was shown arrested in the case filed with Paltan Police Station over the March 26 violence in the city.
