‘Enforce laws to create positive attitudes’

CHATTOGRAM: Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Maqbool Hossain on Saturday said that enforcement of laws is needed to create positive attitudes among people in society, reports BSS.

“Anti-violence and anti-dowry laws were enacted in our country long ago, but we have not been able to make much progress in enforcing the laws. The state has made laws but we have not made much progress in creating positive attitudes in society for the welfare of the people,” he added.

The secretary was speaking as the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of the first inter-college national television debate competition 2021 organized by Bangladesh Television Chattogram Center held at Theater Institute Chattogram.

The theme of the final competition was ‘Social attitudes are the main obstacle in the way of women’s advancement’. Dhaka Notre Dame College team argued for it, while Chattogram Fauzdarhat Cadet College team was against it.

Notre Dame College Dhaka became champion in first inter-college national television debate competition 2021 defeating Fauzdarhat Cadet College Chattogram.

The final round debate was presided over by the daily Azadi editor MA Malek while litterateur Badal Syed, former debater and deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan police Vijay Basak and former debater and journalist Mahfuz Mishu acted as judges in the debating function.
