11 killed in road accidents

At least eleven people were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents across the country on Friday and Saturday.

In Chattogram, an unidentified biker was killed when a truck hit the bike of the unidentified person from behind on Akhtaruzzaman Flyover in the city on Saturday afternoon.

The accident left the unidentified biker dead on the spot. Sub Inspector Maruf Bin Abdullah of Chawk Bazar Police Station said on receiving information, they rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, he said.

In Sylhet, two members of a family were killed and four others injured in a collision between a private car and a pickup van in Golapganj Upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Shafiq Uddin, 70, of Beanibazar Upazila and his grandson Aryan, 01.

Police said the accident occurred at around 11:30 am at Ranaping Fazilpur on Sylhet-Jockyganj Highway. Shafiq Uddin and Aryan were brought to Golapganj Upazila Health complex where duty doctor Sharmin Akhter pronounced them dead, he added.

In Chapainawabganj, at least two people were killed and two others injured as a three wheeler was hit by a truck at Kansat Bazar in Chapainawabganj’s Shibganj upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Harun, 26, of Pardilalpur area of the upazila and Renuara Begum, 55, wife of Abu Sayed of Dhobra area. 

Shibganj Fire Service acting station officer Siraj Uddin said the Sonamasjid land port-bound truck hit the three wheeler, leaving two passengers dead and two others injured.

In Cumilla, three people were killed and two others injured in a collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Cumilla-Noakhali Road in the district’s Manoharganj upazila on Saturday.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The accident occurred around 8am when the speeding Dhaka-bound bus of ‘Himachal Paribahan’ from Noakhali hit the auto-rickshaw in the Natherpetua area, police said.

The crash left three occupants of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot, while two other passengers sustained injuries, said Zafar Ahmed, a sub-inspector at Natherpetua Police Post. The injured have been admitted to Laksham Upazila Health Complex. The bodies of the deceased were sent those to the local hospital morgue, the officer said.

In Barishal, three teenagers were killed when a speeding bus hit their bike on Shaheed Abdur Rab Serniabat Bridge in Barishal city on Friday evening.

The deceased were identified as Siam, son of Sumon Hawladar, Chayan Das, son of Joydeb Das, and Rabbi of Bakerganj municipality area. The three seriously injured teens were rushed to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared the trio dead on arrival.
