CEC off to Russia to observe federal assembly polls

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has left Dhaka for Russia on Thursday morning to observe the Federal Assembly elections to the State Duma.

Private Secretary to the CEC Abul Kashem Mohammed Mazharul Islam will accompany him during the seven-day official visit on invitation of Russian counterpart, said Election Commission Joint Secretary SM Asaduzzaman.

The delegation will return to Dhaka on September 22.

EC Mahbub Talukdar will act as in-charge of the EC in absence of KM Nurul Huda, official sources said.

The elections to State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the eighth convocation will be held from September 17-19.

The host will provide accommodation and hospitality while the Bangladesh Election Commission will bear the cost of international airfare and other expenses, EC sources said.
