Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Amazon pay Tk 66m VAT

Global tech giants Microsoft and Google, social media platform facebook and e-commerce giant Amazon have paid Tk 66 million as VAT in Bangladesh for the month of August.

Of them, Microsoft Corporation submitted Tk 20 million to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Thursday for the first time.

The company took VAT registration from Dhaka south office of Customs, Excise and VAT Commisionerate in July this year.

Facebook, Amazon and Google deposited Tk 46 million as VAT to the NBR on Thursday.

Last month, facebook paid Tk 25.6 million while Google Tk 17 million and Amazon Tk 3.4 million as VAT.

Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka South SM Humayun Kabir said these three non-resident foreign companies have been paying VAT regularly since they were registered with the Commissionerate. "We’re getting VAT from these companies regularly. Besides, we’re now able to know about how much business they’re making in Bangladesh after their registration with the Commissionerate."

The registered taxpayers have to submit their VAT returns every month while the three tech giants have been paying VAT regularly from the current fiscal year.
