Corona positivity rate drops below 6pc 51 more die, 1,862 infected

Bangladesh continues to witness a gradual and steady fall in the daily positivity rate of coronavirus with 5.98 percent reported in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.

The single-day infection rate was lowest in over six months after 5.82 percent reported on March 11 last.

The positivity rate was 6.64 percent on Wednesday. The overall infection rate has declined to 16.43 percent.

The country registered 51 deaths and 1,862 infections from the virus during the 24-hour period, pushing the tallies to 27,109 and 1,538,203 respectively.

On Wednesday, 51 Covid-19 patients died and 1,901 cases were reported in the country.

Earlier, 35 deaths and 2,074 infections were registered on Tuesday, 41 deaths and 1,953 infections on Monday, 53 deaths and 1,871 cases on Sunday and 48 deaths and 1,327 infections were logged on Saturday.

Highest 264 deaths were recorded in the country on August 5 and August 10 while record 16,230 cases were reported on July 28.

Highest corona deaths and infections in the last 24 hours were registered in Dhaka division.

Of the 51 fresh deaths, 29 were reported in Dhaka division while eight in Chattogram, four in Rajshahi, six in Khulna, three in Barishal and one was logged in Rangpur division. However, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions saw no death in the last 24 hours.

Of the 1,862 new cases, 1,135 were logged in Dhaka division while 53 in Mymensingh, 333 in Chattogram, 132 in Rajshahi, 53 in Rangpur, 86 in Khulna, 27 in Barishal and 47 in Sylhet division.

Around 3,549 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,494,090. The recovery rate has risen to 97.13 percent.

A total of 31,149 samples, out of 31,164 collected, were tested at 808 labs in the country during the period. With this, 9,363,609 samples have so far been tested across the country.
