Astha Gateway chairman, MD nabbed

Astha Gateway Ltd Chairman Mohammad Al Amin and Managing Director Harun-Ur-Rashid Badal have been arrested in the capital on charges of embezzling huge money from job seekers.

A CID team arrested them at their office at Vatara in the capital on Wednesday, said Additional DIG of CID Imam Hossain while briefed reporters at the CID headquarters on Thursday.

Al Amin and Badal have allegedly taken a handsome amount of money from each of job seekers in the name of giving jobs, he said.

After taking the money, they provided jobseekers with fake appointment letters. In this way, they swindled a large number of job seekers out of several millions of taka.

The officer said they seized 24 fake appointment letters in name of Imex Manpower Recruiting Agency Bangladesh Ltd. Huge application forms, visiting cards and other things were seized from the office.

A case was filed against five persons, including Al Amin and Badal, with Vatara Police Station.

In the same press briefing, Mukta Dhor, superintendent of police (SP) of LIC Section under the CID, told reporters that they arrested a woman in connection with the recent robberies at 17 jewellery shops and a grocery shop at Ashulia in Dhaka.

The arrestee is Shahana Akhter, 24, wife of Anwar Dewan. She was arrested in Madhya Badda area of the capital on Wednesday night.

Two bhories of gold ornaments and Tk 2.44 lakh in cash were seized from her possession.

On Saturday, Anwar Dewan and eight other robbers involved in the Ashulia robberies were arrested in Narsingdi.
