BNP leaders for resolving internal conflicts

Leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have demanded to resolve the party’s internal conflict, choose strong leadership to wage movement for realising their demands ahead of the next parliament election.

The demands came during a closed-door meeting held on Wednesday, the second day of the three-day meetings of the party leaders with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to devise strategies for the party’s next course of action, party sources said.

The meeting was held at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital. Tarique Rahman joined the meeting from London virtually.

On the second day, BNP joint secretaries-general, secretaries and assistant secretaries were present. The meeting started on Tuesday and will end on Thursday. Top leaders of the party’s front and associate organizations will attend the third day of the meeting.

The party's vice-chairmen and advisers participated in a closed-door meeting at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital on the first day. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman virtually joined the programme from London.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku were present in the meeting on Wednesday.

Few leaders who attended the meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday said most of the leaders requested Tarique Rahman to resolve the party’s internal conflict, choose strong leaders and devise effective strategy to realize their demands of holding the next parliament election under a non-party government.

“We requested Tarique Rahman to strengthen the organization, depending on the party instead of small allies of Jatiya Oikya Front and 20-party alliance and make an effective strategy to wage a strong movement,” said a secretary-level leader of the party who attended the meeting on the second day.

Another leader said they also gave opinions to wage movement with the active participation of senior leaders of the party and advocated for holding countrywide rallies, precessions to revamp the party men ahead of the next general election.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the meetings were held to review the overall political situation in the country and seek views of leaders on what BNP should do to realise its demand for holding the next parliament election under an election-time non-party administration.

Tarique Rahman is taking the opinions of the party leaders to determine the next course of action to make the party more active at the field level, he added.

After the meeting with the party leaders, Tarique Rahman will also hold a meeting with the pro-BNP intellectuals and leaders of pro-BNP professional organizations to take their opinions, BNP sources said.
