EC doesn’t want to hold controversial election: Kabita

Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam on Tuesday said the Election Commission would do everything possible for a free, fair and credible election.

Speaking at a programme marking the distribution of Smart National Identity Card in Naogaon on Tuesday, she said, “The Election Commission will do whatever is necessary to make the upcoming Union Parishad election acceptable. The questionable election is not desirable.”

She said the Election Commission has already started making preparations to hold an acceptable and fair UP election.

“In order to gift a fair and impartial election, the officials and employees of the government have to perform their duties with honesty and sincerity,” she said.

The commissioner urged the candidates contesting the elections to remain neutral irrespective of party affiliation.

Kabita also called upon all officials including DC, SP and election officers to work sincerely for the sake of a free, fair and acceptable election.
