Two human traffickers arrested

Two members of an international human trafficking gang were arrested in the capital’s Mirpur and Uttara areas on Saturday.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion-4 (RAB) arrested Liton Mia alias Dr Liton, 44, and Azad Rahman Khan, 65.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director (Legal and Media Wing) of the elite force, told this to reporters at a press briefing in the city on the day.

A private car, some passports, some bank cheque books, a laptop, 407 Yaba tablets, 12 cans of beer and some other things were seized from them, he said.

During preliminary interrogation, the duo said that they were the members of an international human trafficking racket.

“The racket has 15 to 20 members which was led by Liton. They have so far trafficked 200 to 250 fortune seekers, including 35 to 40 women, to Middle East and some other parts of the world after alluring them of good jobs there. They took Tk 3-4 lakh from each of them,” the director said.

After trafficking, they sold the women fortune seekers for immoral acts while men fortune seekers were also sold for work at various places, he said.
