A Dhaka court on Friday placed Emdadul Haque alias Uzzal Master, one of the top leaders of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), on a three-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Mahmuda Akter passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and appealed to place him on a 10-day remand in the case filed with Mohammadpur police station.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Emdadul from the capital’s Bosila area on Thursday.

According to the elite crime-busting agency, he was linked to the JMB founders since 1995 and was arrested several times in the past and served jail terms for involvement in robbery and militant activities.

A pistol and bullets, two knives, Tk3 lakh in cash, a bulletproof vest, bomb-making chemicals, and jihadi books were recovered from the hideout.

RAB said that Emdadul was trying to reorganise the militant outfit.
