Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested an official of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in relation to a robbery incident that took place in the capital’s Airport area last year.

A team of the DB Uttara Division nabbed the officer named Aksadud Zaman in Rangpur on Wednesday. He was working as a Sub-Inspector (SI) in the CID Dhaka Metro East unit. AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), revealed this at a press conference in the city on Thursday.

On 19 August 2020, a returnee named Roman was captured near Kawla of Airport area and taken away in a car, he said. He was later handcuffed and robbed of his cash and valuables, the officer said, adding that Roman filed a robbery case at the Airport Police Station in this regard the next day.

The officer said that the DB police already arrested six suspects -- Mosharraf Hossain, Selim Molla, Ripon Morol, Amir Hossain Talukder, Rizu Mia alias Shikder and Hasan Raza, who made confession before a court. Hasan Raza disclosed the involvement of Aksadud in the robbery, he said, adding that Aksadud led the robbery.

A few days ago, Aksadud said that he and other suspects gave Tk 1.42 crore to Additional DC of Uttara DB Division Kaisar Rizvi Quraishi and some others in bribe in order to save them. The matter of bribe came to light after a phone conversation between his (Aksadud) wife Tahmina Akhter and Quraishi was leaked.

ADC Quraishi, however, denied the allegations and claimed that the phone conversation was fake.
