56 more die of corona, 2,639 cases detected

Coronavirus infection and fatalities have been declining day by day across the country as the single-day death has declined to below 60 in the last 24 hours.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 56 corona patients have died and 2,639 infection cases have been detected in the last 24 hours till 8am on Tuesday.

The country has recorded 56 deaths from Covid-19 during the period, which is the lowest in around three months. On 18 June, 54 people died of the deadly viral disease in a day. The positivity rate is below 10 percent for the fourth day in a row as 9.69 percent of samples have tested positive during the 24-hour period.

The positivity rate was 9.66 percent on Monday and 9.88 percent on Sunday.

The DGHS said the highest of 264 deaths was recorded in the country on August 5 and August 10 while the highest of 16,230 cases were reported on July 28.

The number of total infections has risen to 15,19,805 with a daily positivity rate of 9.69 per cent while the overall infection rate has declined to 16.67 percent.

Earlier on June 7, health officials reported 11.47 percent positivity rate followed by an alarming rise in infections which reached its peak at 32.55 percent on July 24.

Besides, the national death toll has increased to 26,684 with a case fatality rate of 1.76 per cent.

The DGHS said the coronavirus situation is worst in the capital as the highest corona deaths and infections were registered in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours.

Of the 56 fresh deaths, 20 were reported in Dhaka division while 15 in Chattogram, three in Rajshahi, six in Khulna, two in Rangpur, five in Sylhet, four in Barishal division and one in Mymensingh.

Of the 2,639 new cases, 1,558 were recorded in Dhaka division while 400 in Chattogram, 184 in Rajshahi, 100 in Rangpur, 163 in Khulna, 76 in Barishal, 97 in Sylhet division and 61 in Mymensingh.

Around 5,567 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 14,60,754. The recovery rate has now stood at 96.11 percent.

A total of 27,233 samples, out of 27,466 collected, were tested at 799 labs in the country during the period.

With this, 91,18,843 samples have so far been tested across the country.
