The coronavirus infection and fatalities have been declining day by day across the country including in Dhaka as the daily infection rate has dropped to around nine percent.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 70 coronavirus infected patients died and 2,430 infection cases were detected in the last 24 hours till 8am on Sunday.
Both the numbers of daily deaths and cases witnessed an increase yesterday as 61 deaths and 1,743 cases were reported on Saturday. The DGHS said the highest of 264 deaths was recorded in the country on August 5 and August 10 while the highest of 16,230 cases were reported on July 28.
The number of total infections has risen to 15,14,456 with a daily positivity rate of 9.66 per cent while the overall infection rate has declined to 16.71 percent.
However, around 10 percent coronavirus infection rate reported for last few days is the lowest in around three months in the country.
Earlier on June 7, the health officials reported 11.47% positivity rate followed by an alarming rise in infections which reached its peak at 32.55% on July 24. Besides, the national death toll has increased to 26,563 with a case fatality rate of 1.75 per cent.
The DGHS said the coronavirus situation is worst in the capital as the highest corona deaths and infections were registered in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours.
Of the 2,430 new cases, 1,571 were logged in Dhaka division while 56 in Mymensingh, 236 in Chattogram, 156 in Rajshahi, 110 in Rangpur, 141 in Khulna, 65 in Barishal and 95 in Sylhet division.
Around 5,060 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 14,51,063. The recovery rate has stood at 95.81 percent.
A total of 25,163 samples, out of 24,819 collected, were tested at 797 labs in the country during the period. With this, 90,64,015 samples have so far been tested across the country.
Meanwhile speaking at the health bulletin of the DGHS, its spokesperson Dr Md Nazmul Islam on Sunday said 1,97,380 coronavirus samples were tested in last week which was 3.88 percent less than the previous week while the number of infection cases and death both declined in the last week. “The daily infection rate now has declined to below 10 percent which is comfortable,” he added.
The DGHS official said out of total 16,463 general Covid-19 beds, 12,269 were vacant across the country while out of 6,040 general beds, 4,076 were vacant and out of 858 ICU beds, 503 remained vacant in Dhaka city on Sunday.
