Army chief off to India on 3-day official visit

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed left Dhaka for New Delhi on a three-day official visit to India on Saturday.

He left Dhaka for India on a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft.

General Shafiuddin, who is leading an eight-member delegation of Bangladesh Army, will pay courtesy calls on India’s national security adviser, chief of defence staff, chiefs of the three military forces, Indian secretary of defence and other senior military officials during his visit, according to an Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) press release.

During the meetings, General Shafiuddin will discuss the bilateral relations and cooperation between the armies of the two countries.

The army chief is also expected to visit various Indian military and national defence colleges.

He will also pay a courtesy call on the Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, during the visit.

The army chief is expected to return to Bangladesh on Wednesday (September 8).
