Police have arrested three teenagers in connection with the killing of a seven-year-old child in Singair upazila of Manikganj.

A team of Manikganj unit of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) captured Hridoy Hossain, 19, Nazmul Hossain, 16 and Saddam Hossain, 17, from Berundi village on Friday.

Additional SP MKH Jahangir Alam, in-charge of PBI Manikganj unit, briefed reporters on the matter at PBI Headquarters in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Saturday.

Al Amin, son of Shahidul Islam of Singair upazila, went missing on August 28 morning when he was riding his bicycle in front of their house.

On August 31, his body was found buried at a deserted homestead at Berundi village. Later, a murder case was filed with Singair Police Station.

The PBI traced the killers and arrested them, conducting a  shadow investigation into the case, said the officer.

On the reason of the murder, he said the alleged killers wanted to draw attention of political leaders to them.

For this, they needed a motorcycle and they planned to abduct somebody to arrange for the money to buy a motorbike, he said.

They found Al Amin riding bicycle in front of their house on the day of incident.  They took him to the spot in the name of showing him flood water and they suffocated him to death and buried there, the police officer described.

They planned to contact with the victim’s parents and tell them that their son was abducted, according to the officer.

And then, they would demand a handsome amount of money as ransom. But after the murder, they could not buy a new SIM card and contact his parents.

After the recovery of the body, they went into hiding. They first went to Savar and then to Benapole in Jashore to flee to India, but failed. And then, they went to Rajbari, but finally returned to their village.
