Educationist Anwari Kabir passes away

Educationist and social worker Anwari Kabir passed away on August 29 at the age of 94.

She was the wife of late Khairul Kabir, founder editor of the Dainik Sangbad and first chairman & managing director of Janata Bank.

Anwari Kabir was born in Kolkata in British period. She established the english medium Little Jewels School in the city’s Purana Paltan area in 1955.

Anwari Kabir was also the elected general secretary of the East Pakistan Women’s Association (now Bangladesh Mohila Parishad). Subsequently, she was elected the general secretary of the All-Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA).

She introduced Zonta International Club in Pakistan (an international club for professional women). Under her leadership, immediately after the Liberation War, Zonta International got involved in some major rehabilitation programme as well as cyclone protection programme, says a press release.
