SYLHET: More than one lakh of people of three upazilas have been suffering for want of a concrete bridge over the Sunai River at Bibirai village in Tilpara union under the Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet.
A good number of locals said, thousands of students are the worst sufferer. They have no other option but to go to school on this way. Moreover, it is difficult for the growers and traders to transport goods and produce to different areas. Due to poor marketing facility, grassroots growers do not get fair prices of their produce.
Apart from the adults, a large number of school students and children also use the bridge with great difficulties.
Locals said people of the upazilas use the bridge every day to go to union parishad office and Beanibazar upazila headquarters.
Chairman of Tilpara Union Parishad Mahbubur Rahman said due to lack of a concrete bridge people of these area have been suffering for a long time. He urged the concern authority to construction of a concrete bridge over the river in order to alleviate the plight of the common people.
Earlier local people raise their demand in several times to the local lawmakers, while he visited the area during the parliamentary election campaign. But no visible efforts are taken yet to alleviate the problems alleged by many suffers peoples.
Beside the Beanibazar upazila many people are from Borolekha and Gulapganj upazilas are use this bamboo bridge to come in Beanibazar upazila as this road are short way for their communication.
Hasanuzzaman Chowdhury, a local LGED engineer said, local lawmakers are aware about this matter. I will take necessary step after getting the directives in this connection.
Contacted, Abul Kashem Pollob, Beanibazar upazila chairman said, it is a necessary to construct a permanent bridge in this area. We already talk our local MP about this matter and he show eager to built a bridge in this area. After built a bridge in this area three upazilas people will be get benefited the chairman added.
