The Election Commission on Thursday rescheduled the elections to 161 Union Parishads and nine municipalities in the country for September 20. Earlier the elections were postponed due to high corona infection rate in the country.

The Commission has also taken decision to hold Cumilla-7 by-poll on October 7.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the commission with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, EC secretary Humayun Kabir Khandakar said that the commission took the decision to hold the polls in this month as the infections of the Covid-19 cases are decreasing.

“The commission earlier postponed elections to 167 UPs. Of those, 161 have been scheduled for September 20,” he said.
