Information Minister Hasan Mahmud has acknowledged that the Digital Security Act (DSA) is being misused to some extent.

“There are DSA and Official Secrets Acts in many countries. It is meant to protect everybody from digital crimes. All the laws are passed for security reasons but they are misused. The DSA is being misused in our country which is undesirable,” he said.

He made the statements at a programme marking the inauguration of a news portal, crabnewsbd.com, of Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at Nasrul Hamid auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital on Wednesday.

The minister expressed the hope that the crabnewsbd.com would speak for people through objective journalism.

On the mushrooming of news portals and IP channels, he said that the ministry would get tough with them soon.

Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Director General Zafar Wazed, CRAB Chief Advisor Shankar Kumar Dey, Dhaka Reporters Unity President Morsalin Nomani and General Secretary Mosiur Rahman Khan, among others, addressed the programme with CRAB President Mizan Malik in the chair.
