There is no end to controversy about Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, Jatiya Sangsad whip and lawmaker from Chattogram-12 constituency (Patiya).

His name surfaced in the latest vaccine scandal in Patiya. With the issue still to die down, the whip got him at the centre of another controversy.

Avijit Dhar Bappi, a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), has posted an open letter on Facebook demanding protection of the puja committee and other debottar property committees from the clutches of Whip Shamsul’s ‘Bhaiya Group’.

In the post, he introduced Whip Shamsul as ‘Shamsul Alam Bichchhu Chakraborty’ and expressed his regret.

Posing a question, Avijit said, “No one of my religion goes to lead your mosque committee or Eidgah Maidan. Then why are you coming (to lead Hindu committees)? Do you understand my theory of our religious history?”

Citing the common people of Patiya, he added that ‘Shamsul Alam Bichchhu Chakraborty’ will be present as the chief guest at the Janmashtami meeting. “Only in Bangladesh, the ‘Bhaiya Group’ controls the puja committee and other debottar property committees.”

Here is the post:

“Shamsul Alam Bichchu Chakraborty is the chief guest at the holy meeting of Patiya’s Janmashtami Committee. Protect my religion from the ‘Bhaiya Group’. The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated by the followers of traditional Hindu religion all over the world with great joy. Today I’m forced to write in the light of the environmental situation. I’m a Bangalee in the national spirit and I’m a Hindu in the religious spirit.”

“A person from Patiya of Chattogram said with great regret that ‘Shamsul Alam Bichchhu Chakraborty’ will be present as the chief guest in the religious meeting organised by Patiya Janmashtami Parishad. Only in Bangladesh, the Bhaiya Group controls the puja committee and other debottar property committees,” Avijit added.
