Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the country’s people to unite to ‘defeat the ruling Awami League politically’.
“This fascist Awami League is destroying the entire nation in a bid to prolong its stay in power unlawfully. They are destroying our constitution and have pushed the democratic rights into destruction. They have ruined the economy and politicized the administration,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said the government must be responsible for incidents of ‘enforced disappearances’. “Find them and get them back to their family members. Otherwise, you (incumbent government) will be tried in people’s court,” he said.
“We want to get rid of this (enforced disappearance). Let’s be vocal and stop this culture of enforced disappearance. We strongly demand that victims be returned to their families,” he said.
Speaking at a demonstration in front of the Jatiya Press Club arranged by pro-BNP DUJ and BFUJ, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said “The government is spreading various types of propagandas through creating issues one after another in a bid to hide the plundering.”
