Captain Nawshad Ataul Qayyum, the pilot Biman Bangladesh Airlines pilot, who suffered a massive heart attack in flight on Friday, is still in coma at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur.

“His condition is as same as yesterday. He is still in coma at the ICU,” said a BSS report quoting a high official of the hospital.

However, a source at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism told that Captain Nawshad’s condition began deteriorating on Sunday morning and his several organs were not working.

“He can be called clinically dead,” the source said adding that currently he is completely depending on ventilation.

Captain Mahbubur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Airlines Pilot Association, also said that he heard about similar situation of Captain Nawshad.

“The high-powered medical board in charge of his treatment will take the decision on removing ventilation support of Captain Nawshad after discussing with his family members,” he said.

Earlier, Subharjit Dasgupta, Director of Medical Services at Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur, said that Captain Nawshad was receiving treatment under critical care physicians Dr Rajan Barokar and Dr Virendra Belekar.
