Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud claimed an unidentified person was buried in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar instead of Ziaur Rahman.

“The body of an unidentified person was brought from Chattogram and buried in the name of Ziaur Rahman in Dhaka,” he said.

Hasan, also the information and broadcasting minister, made the claim while addressing a discussion, marking the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.

Mentioning that BNP is distorting history of War of Liberation and carrying out politics making alliance with defeated forces, Hasan said such activities should be stopped.

“As they talks about the corpse, the truth is that order had been given to trace corpse of Ziaur Rahman. But, dead body from one of the three graves in Rangunia was brought to Dhaka in the name of Ziaur Rahman and buried,” he said.

“It would be un-Islamic if someone’s grave is termed as another person. According to the history, you have cheated the people,” he said. The information minister said mischievous attempt to demean Bangabandhu has not stopped yet even after 50 years of independence.

“Attempts have been made to make villains into heroes. The heroic freedom fighters participated in the War of Liberation for Bangabandhu, not for Zia,” he said.
