3,000 more poor families get food aid in Sitakunda

CHATTOGRAM: Food items were distributed among 3,000 impoverished and helpless families with the financial assistance of Lt Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited President and Bashundhara Group Vice-Chairman Safwan Sobhan Tasvir at two unions of Sitakunda upazila in the district on Sunday.

On behalf of Bashundhara Group Vice-Chairman Safwan Sobhan, Club General Secretary Foyezur Rahman handed out the relief items at the programmes at Banshbaria and Barabkunda unions marking National Mourning Day.

Banshbaria Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Md Shawkat Ali Jahangir, Barabkunda UP Chairman Md Sadakat Ullah Miazi, Bashundhara Oil and Gas Company Limited Assistant General Manager (Coordination) Jahirul Hoque, Manager Sheikh Mahtab Tanim, Barabkunda Union Awami League General Secretary Md Shahjahan, Juba League General Secretary MA Hanif, Swechchhasebak League President Sahab Uddin, Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Imam Uddin Chowdhury Adil, Banshbaria Union Muktijoddha Commander Md Rafiqul Alam and Sitakunda Press Club President Soumitra Chakrabartiya were present, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Foyezur Rahman said Club President Safwan Sobhan is a dedicated social worker and sports personality.

He has been working for the welfare of people of the country and sent the food items as gift amid the coronavirus pandemic, he said.

The general secretary also requested everyone to pray for the family members of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan so that they can continue the relief distribution programme in the future.

Barabkunda UP Chairman Md Sadakat Ullah Miazi said many industrial groups distributed relief among several hundred people, but the club has given out relief among 3,000 families at a time.

People are getting benefits through the relief distribution programmes throughout the country, he said.

Banshbaria UP Chairman Md Shawkat Ali Jahangir said Bashundhara Group has changed the fate of people in the area.

Price of land has also increased several times after they started industrialisation work in the area, he added.

A number of people who received food items expressed their satisfaction and prayed for the organisers.
