2,45,000 pills seized in Teknaf; 52 drug peddlers, users held in capital

Huge Yaba haul again

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 2,45,000 Yaba tablets during a drive in Habirchara marine drive area of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Friday. 

But, none was arrested in this connection so far.      

The Coast Guard members signaled to stop some people due to their suspicious movement at around 2:00am. But, the suspected smugglers entered the nearby jungle quickly, leaving two polythene bags.

Later, they found huge amounts of Yaba tablets inside the bags.

Lieutenant Commander Amirul Haque, media officer at the Bangladesh Coast Guard headquarters, said a special operation was conducted in the area under the leadership of Station Commander Teknaf Lt Commander M Naeem-ul-Haq on the basis of secret information.

The seized tablets were handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action, said a press release.

Lieutenant Commander Amirul Haque further said that regular operations are being carried out in the areas under the supervision of Bangladesh Coast Guard to maintain law and order, ensure public safety as well as curb piracy, robbery and drug control.

Meanwhile, members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in separate anti-drug operations arrested 52 people in the capital in 24 hours until 6:00am on Friday on charges of selling and taking drugs.

According to a DMP press release, separate police teams arrested them and seized illegal drugs from different areas in the capital.

During the operations, the police teams seized 714 pieces of Yaba tablets, 32gm heroin, 60kg cannabis and four bottles of Phensedyl syrup, the release added.

A total of 36 cases were filed against the arrestees in these connections with police stations concerned under the Narcotics Control Act.
