Man City’s Mendy remanded in custody on rape charges

A British court on Friday remanded Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy in custody after he was charged with four counts of rape and one count of

sexual assault, reports AFP. The 27-year-old appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court in north west England to face charges relating to claims brought by three complainants that are alleged to have taken place between October 2020 and August 2021. City said Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation. "The matter is subject to a legal process and the Club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete," City's statement added. Mendy, who was part of France's 2018 World Cup winning squad, joined City in 2017 from Monaco for a reported £52 million ($71 million).
