1,180 die of corona so far in Rangpur div

RANGPUR: Five more patients died of corona during the last 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Friday, raising the total number of casualties to 1,180 in the division.

“The overall corona situation is showing a mostly improving trend in the division during the last two weeks,” Focal Person of the corona and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told on Friday.

The five new deaths included four from Rangpur and one from Thakurgaon districts here.

The district-wise break up of the 1,180 fatalities stands at 279 in Rangpur, 74 in Panchagarh, 85 in Nilphamari, 62 in Lalmonirhat, 66 in Kurigram, 237 in Thakurgaon, 316 in Dinajpur and 61 in Gaibandha.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division,” Dr Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 52,730 as 244 new patients were diagnosed after testing 1,320 samples in the division with the positivity rate of 18.58 percent on Thursday.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 17.62 percent on Wednesday, 12.01 percent on Tuesday, 11.54 percent on Monday, 13.15 percent on Sunday and 15.16 percent on Saturday last in the division.

The district-wise break up of 52,730 patients hovered at 12,006 in Rangpur, 3,462 in Panchagarh, 4,287 in Nilphamari, 2,645 in Lalmonirhat, 4,482 in Kurigram, 7,128 in Thakurgaon, 14,073 in Dinajpur and 4,647 in Gaibandha of the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,53,157 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 52,730 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.83 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 46,698 with recovery of 306 more persons on Thursday as the average recovery rate currently stands at 88.56 percent.

The 46,698 recovered patients include 9,593 of Rangpur, 3,075 Panchagarh, 3,960 Nilphamari, 2,359 Lalmonirhat, 4,092 Kurigram, 6,069 Thakurgaon, 13,569 in Dinajpur and 3,981 Gaibandha districts.

Among the 52,730 patients, 239 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 24 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 46,698 patients and 1,180 deaths while 4783 are remaining now in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 18,52,952 and among them, 7,35,152 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged all for abiding by the health directives to maintain the improving trend of the Covid-19 situation.
