Charge-framing hearing in two cases against Khaleda Sept 5

A Dhaka court will hear on September 5 the charge-framing in two cases filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on charges of celebrating fake birthday on National Mourning Day and stigmatising the War of Liberation by rehabilitating the anti-liberation forces.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor fixed the date on Thursday after the regular court activities resumed following a long break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Journalist Gazi Jahirul Islam filed one of the cases against Khaleda on August 30, 2016 alleging that the BNP chief since 1996 has been celebrating her fake birthday on August 15, the day when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was martyred along with most of his family members. She is doing this on purpose only to dishonour the Father of the Nation.

He also submitted copies of different newspaper reports on Khaleda’s birthday, copies of her passport, marriage certificate and mark sheets, which indicate her birthday on any other day, but not on August 15. Meanwhile, Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddiqui filed the other case on November 3, 2016, against Khaleda and her late husband Ziaur Rahman for stigmatising the War of Liberation by rehabilitating the anti-liberation elements.

The BNP chief is now on bail in both the cases.
