The 17th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman, former president of Mahila Awami League and wife of late President Zillur Rahman, was observed across the country in a befitting manner on Tuesday.

Ivy Rahman received grievous injuries during grisly grenade attacks on an AL rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on August 21 in 2004 and she succumbed to her injuries on August 24.

Marking the day, different political and socio-cultural organisations, including Awami League, its associate bodies and other likeminded organisations paid glowing tributes to AL’s former women affairs secretary Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths at her grave in Banani.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader along with party’s senior leaders placed wreaths at her grave following health guidelines due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dhaka North and South city AL, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Swechchhasebak League, Krishak League, Jubo Mahila League, Mahila Awami League and deferent others associate bodies paid tributes to Ivy Rahman.

Programmes including offering fateha, arranging milad mahfil and special prayers and holding discussions were held in the capital and elsewhere across the country.
