Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday alleged that BNP wanted to turn the country a Taliban state as the party had made Bangladesh a sanctuary for militants during its rule in 2001-06.

“Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) wants to turn the country a Taliban state as the party has made Bangladesh a sanctuary for militants during its rule. Whether do they want to make the country a Taliban state again?” he asked.

The information minister made the comments while addressing a discussion marking 17th death anniversary of former women affairs secretary of Awami League Ivy Rahman.

Ivy Rahman, wife of former president of the country Zillur Rahman, received grievous injuries during grisly grenade attacks on an AL rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on August 21 in 2004 and she succumbed to her injuries on August 24.

Hasan, also joint general secretary of the ruling Awami League, said BNP had killed Shah AMS Kibria, Ahsanullah Master and others, even they carried out grenade attack and bomb blasts at different places.

“The party (BNP) is directly connected with the militant group. Those who do this politics they can never bring welfare to the country and the nation. My question is, do they want to make the country a Taliban state?” he posed a question.

Mentioning the defeated forces know it very well that they can never be able to take revenge through the war, Hasan said that’s why the defeated forces killed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“As per Pakistani’s plan, they had chosen BNP founder Ziaur Rahman for the killing,” he said adding, BNP started its journey through carrying out politics of destruction.

Criticising BNP, Hasan said BNP is spreading falsehood over the vaccination.

“Bangladesh is being able to start inoculation when the vaccination programme has not started in 130 countries.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced that 80 percent of the people of Bangladesh will be vaccinated,” he said.

‘Mirza Fakhrul, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has received vaccine shots. Khaleda Zia has also received double dose vaccines. If there is confusion, why did you take the vaccine?” he also asked.
