The government on Tuesday approved a total of eight projects involving an overall estimated cost of Tk 54.41 billion.
The approval came from a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) with its Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The premier joined the meeting virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence while ministers and state ministers joined the meeting from the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area. Planning Commission members and secretaries concerned were present.
Of the total project cost, Tk 33.32 billion will come from the government of Bangladesh, Tk 479.3 million from the concerned organisation’s own fund while the rest Tk 20.60 billion as project assistance, Planning Minister informed at a press briefing later.
Of the approved eight projects, seven are new while one is a revised project.
State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam, Planning Commission members and secretaries concerned were present at the briefing.
Of the approved projects, Tk 32.64 billion will be spent for constructing a steel arch bridge over the Brahmaputra River in Mymensingh.
Out of the total cost for bridge project, Tk 13.53 billion will come from the government of Bangladesh while the rest Tk 19.09 billion as project assistance from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
The other projects approved in the meeting are Urban Resilience Project: Dhaka North City Corporation Part (DNCC Part), 1st revised with an additional cost of Tk 661.8m, Development of Madarganj-Koira-Monsurnagar (Kazipur)-Abdullah Mor(Sarishabari)-Dhonbari road of Tk 6.85bn, Massive technology-based integrated resource management for poverty alleviation project of Tk 2.09bn, Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management (DoF Part) (CSAWMP) with Tk 1.06bn, River protection of Dhepa, Punorbhoba and Tangon Rivers in Dinajpur district with Tk 1.80bn and Capacity enhancement of existing grid substation and transmission line of Tk 7.75bn.
