The Election Commission (EC) has decided to complete Union Parishad (UP), Zila Parishad and Narayanganj City Corporation elections by December as the tenure of many local government bodies have expired.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the commission at the Election Commission Secretariat on Monday with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair.
The commission is expected to fix the dates for the elections during its upcoming meeting in the first week of September, he added.
Meanwhile, the EC fixed September 4 for holding the by-elections to Sylhet-3 constituency, which was scheduled to be held on July 28. The voting was stayed due to the Covid-19 lockdown. The constituency fell vacant after the death of Awami League MP Mahmud Us Samad from the coronavirus on March 11.
