Dhaka University (DU) will observe the ‘Black Day’ today in remembrance of the attack on the teachers and students of the university by the then military-backed caretaker government between August 20 and 23, 2007.

Marking the day, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university will wear black badges and an online discussion will also be held at Abdul Matin virtual classroom on the campus around 11:00am with the university Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.

On August 20 in 2007, some military personnel severely beat up students of the university and a violent clash took place between them centering a football match at the university central playground.

Following the clash, the then caretaker government imposed a curfew on the divisional cities and later arrested four DU teachers and eight students on the night of August 23.
