Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) organised a webinar titled ‘Development Vision of Bangabandhu’ as part of observance of the National Mourning Day on Thursday.

Planning Minister MA Mannan at a webinar paid glowing tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman highlighting his visionary development thoughts and plans.

Planning Minister MA Mannan said, “In Bangabandhu’s 7th March speech, Bangabandhu meant freedom of the people, economy, and society to ensure the five basic needs for the nation. Article 15 of the constitution emphasises planned economic growth. He chose a middle way between capitalism and communism: the way of welfare of people. Bangabandhu always prioritised both material and cultural improvement.”

EBL Managing Director and CEO Ali Reza Iftekhar said, “We can translate his dreams into reality only by achieving economic freedom and establishing equal rights for all, ensuring good governance and participation of all the people in national development.”

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said, “Bangabandhu wanted to ensure food security and employment for all. The first five-year plan was totally scientific. Whatever we are doing now, Bangabandhu in his 3.5 years tenure, laid the foundation for it.”

State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam opined that Bangabandhu’s development vision follows his dream of liberating the nation.

Dr Shamsul Alam said, “Bangabandhu was not a capitalist, neither a communist. He wanted a welfare state, where basic needs for hard working mass people would be ensured.”

The webinar was moderated by Ziaul Karim, Head of Communications and External Affairs of EBL.
