Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to immediately take measures for reopening all the educational institutions in the country.
She gave the directive while virtually attending a meeting of the secretaries of different ministries and divisions at the NEC Conference Room at Sher-e-Banglanagar in the capital.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said the premier directed the authorities concerned to immediately reopen the educational institutions, taking two things into consideration.
The corona situation must be improved and vaccination of the students and teachers must be ensured for reopening of the educational institutions, he said quoting the premier.
After the detection of coronavirus case in Bangladesh on March 17 last year, the government closed all the educational institutions to save the students from the deadly virus.
Since then, then government enforced countrywide lockdown and shutdown of government-semi government offices, business entities and public transport services and opened those for several occasions.
But the educational institutions still have remained closed although the guardians, students and teachers made repeated appeal for reopening of the educational institutions.
Addressing the meeting, the premier asked the authorities concerned to immediately bring all the students aged over 18 under the vaccination programme.
The premier also stressed the need for running online academic activities until reopening of the educational institutions.
Some 1.79 lakh students of different universities have so far been registered for vaccination. Of them, nearly 80,000 students took the first dose of corona vaccine.
