Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said those created the ground for the August 15 carnage are equally responsible like the killers for the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members.

“The killers have been brought to book. Those who have created an atmosphere for the August 15 carnage are equally responsible,” she said while virtually addressing a discussion.

Awami League organised the programme at its central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital, marking the 46th martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.

Hasina, also eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, said she knew everything of the matter. “The trial was essential. Everything will be unearthed in phases,” she said.

The premier said conspiracy started soon after Bangabandhu returned home on January 10, 1972. “A division was created among the freedom fighters. Jatiya Samjtantrik Dal was also formed. An attempt was there to alienate Bangabandhu from the people. When the attempt failed, the carnage was staged,” she said.

She said if the people went through the newspapers of that time, many things would get cleared. “It takes several years for building a war-ravaged country. Instead of giving only one-year time, criticism started,” she recalled.

“Instead of having patience, many things were written. Who wrote and whom to make happy? Who have created the ground for the killing?” she said posing a question.

Mentioning the interview of self-confessed killers Faruk-Rashid, the premier said those who had staged the carnage and created ground for it were equally responsible.

Sheikh Hasina, also the president of AL, said her government had a lone target to ensure food, treatment and standard life of the people. “It was a cherished dream of Bangabandhu that people would get food, treatment and standard life. I think when I’ll able to ensure the facilities, the real revenge of Bangabandhu killing will be taken,” she said.

AL senior leaders, including General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Abdur Razzaque, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman, Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, among others, addressed the programme.
