FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Bashundhara Kings for becoming the champions of the 2020-21 edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

In a letter sent to Bangladesh Football Federation President Kazi Salahuddin on August 11, Infantino congratulated all the team members of Kings, who were involved in their journey to retain the BPL title for successive years.

“Please allow me to congratulate Bashundhara Kings for having been crowned 2021 champions of Bangladesh!” Infantino wrote in the letter. “The title is, no doubt, the result of hard work, passion and commitment, and

everyone at the club can be proud of this important achievement. I would be grateful if you could please extend my congratulations to everyone involved, whom I encourage to continue working with team spirit, passion and determination,” he added.

Kings earlier secured the BPL title with four matches to spare after defeating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in their 20th match of the ongoing BPL last week.

Kings also posted the letter on their official Facebook page and thanked the FIFA boss for his congratulatory message.

“Thank you honourable #Fifa President Gianni Infantino for such lovely gesture…Bashundhara Kings is a proud family today,” it said.

Kings are currently in the Maldives to take part in the AFC Cup group stage matches.

The touring members of Kings, who reached Male, the capital of Maldives on Friday, all returned negative tests for Covid-19 and they also completed their first practice session on Saturday.

Kings will take on Maziya Sports and Recreation Club of the Maldives in the first match of the AFC Cup on August 18 at the National Stadium in Male.
