A Dhaka court on Friday sent five people, including film actress Porimoni, to jail rejecting their bail petitions in three separate cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

The four other persons are Model Mariam Aktar Mou, Raz Multimedia owner and film director Nazrul Islam Raz, his associate Md Sabuj Ali and Porimoni’s manager Ashraful Islam Dipu.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondol sent Porimoni and Dipu to jail when Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Kazi Golam Mostafa, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court on completion of their six-day remand in two phases.

The CID told the court that Porimoni and Dipu gave important information about the recovery of narcotics from their residences which were being verified. So, the IO appealed to the court to confine them in jail until completion of the probe.

However, the CID did not submit any fresh remand prayer for the accused in the case filed with Banani Police Station.

The defence, however, submitted a petition seeking bail on grounds that Porimoni was framed falsely and she has given commitment to act in a number of films which she cannot complete if she is in jail. But the court rejected the bail pleas after hearing.

The same court sent film director Nazrul Islam Raz and his associate Sabuj Ali to jail when CID Inspector Md Giaus Uddin, also Investigation Officer of the case, produced them before the court on completion of their six-day remand in two phases in a drug case filed with Banani Police Station.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Abu Sayeed sent Model Mariam Aktar Mou to jail rejecting her bail petition in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station under the narcotics control act.

CID Inspector Probir Kumar Ghosh, also the investigation officer of the case, produced Mou before the court on completion of her nine-day remand in three phases.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials at press briefing claimed that a mini bar was found at Porimoni’s Banani residence in the capital where she regularly arranged parties.

Raz and his syndicate used to supply foreign liquor and different kinds of drugs for the parties. One Shariful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan and Masudul Islam alias Jisan helped Raz do such activities, RAB has found.

On the basis of information provided by Mishu and Jisan, RAB conducted several raids in Banani on August 4, arresting Porimoni, her manager Ashraful Islam, and Raz and his manager Sabuj Ali in the process.

RAB said 33 bottles of different types of foreign liquor, more than 150 used foreign liquor bottles, yaba tablets, LSD and ‘ice’ were recovered from Porimoni’s home.

RAB officials also said the syndicate run by Raz used to host DJ parties in several upscale areas, including Gulshan and Banani, and supply illegal drugs, using the parties as a cover.

On the other hand, detectives on August 1 arrested model Mou from her Mohammadpur residence where they seized 750 yaba pills and 12 bottles of foreign liquor from there.
