Missing Chinese worker found dead in pond

CHATTOGRAM: Police recovered the body of a missing Chinese worker from a pond of the under-construction ‘SS Power Plant’ at Banshkhali upazila in the district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Gi Kingwane, 50.

He worked as a pipe technician at the power plant of the company.

Sources said Gi went to the site adjacent to the Bay of Bengal for installing pipes on Wednesday morning.

He went missing and remained traceless since then.

The plant authorities informed the police of the matter in the afternoon.

On receiving information, police and members of fire service conducted search operation at the power plant and nearby areas throughout the night.

But, they failed to trace the Chinese citizen.

Later, the plant authorities noticed the body floating on the pond at the plant at around 7:00am on the day.

Officer in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Kabir of Banshkhali Police Station said they recovered the body from the pond and sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue.

The body bore no mark of injury and cause behind the death couldn’t be known immediately, he said adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this connection.

Mentionable, business conglomerate ‘S Alam Group’ took the initiative for setting up the coal-based 1320-megawatt capacity power plant on 600 acres of land at Pashchim Baroghona under Gandamara union of the Banshkhali upazila.
