The number of daily coronavirus cases has been declining over the last few days though the death toll remains above 200.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 237 corona patients have died and 10,420 new cases have been detected in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning. A total of 2,713 coronavirus deaths and 137,258 cases have been reported in 11 days August.

The highest of 264 deaths was recorded in the country on August 5 and August 10 while the highest 16,230 cases were reported on July 28.

The number of total infections soared to 1,386,742 with a daily positivity rate of 23.45 per cent while the overall infection rate has risen to 16.80 per cent.

Besides, the national death toll has jumped to 23,398 with a case fatality rate of 1.69 per cent.

The country has seen more than 100 single-day deaths from the virus for 46 consecutive days. This is the 18th day in a row that the country reported over 200 single-day deaths.

A total of 336,226 people were infected with the virus and 6,182 corona patients died across the country in July --- the highest since the pandemic has begun. The DGHS said the coronavirus situation is deteriorating in the capital as the highest corona deaths and infections were registered in the Dhaka division in the last 24 hours.

Of the 237 fresh deaths, 105 were reported in the Dhaka division while 54 in Chattogram, 10 in Rajshahi, 20 in Khulna, 11 in Mymensingh, six in Rangpur, 23 in Sylhet and eight in the Barishal division.

Of the 10,420 new cases, 5163 were logged in the Dhaka division while 558 in Mymensingh, 2173 in Chattogram, 598 in Rajshahi, 342 in Rangpur, 640 in Khulna, 389 in Barishal and 557 in Sylhet division.

Around 13,313 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,248,075. The recovery rate has stood at 90 per cent.

A total of 44,008 samples, out of 44,430 collected, were tested at 708 labs in the country during in the last 24 hours. With this, 8,256,471 samples have so far been tested across the country.
