Porimoni on fresh remand in drug case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Dhallywood actress Porimoni and her manager Ashraful Islam Dipu on a two-day fresh remand each in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas passed the order after Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced them before his court seeking a five-day remand for further interrogation in the case.

While leaving the courtroom, Porimoni claimed that the case filed against her is false. She urged journalists to carry out investigation into it, saying she is being framed in a false case.

Meanwhile, the same court placed film producer Nazrul Islam Raz and his manager Sabuj Ali on a six-day fresh remand each in two cases filed under the Narcotics Control Act and the Pornography Control Act. Opposing the remand petitions, defence lawyers submitted bail petitions before the court for the accused but the court rejected the pleas after hearing.

Earlier on August 5, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid placed the four accused on a four-day remand each in two separate cases filed with Banani Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials claimed that a mini bar was found at Porimoni’s Banani residence in the capital where she used to arrange parties on a regular basis.

Raz and his syndicate used to supply foreign liquor and different kinds of drugs for the parties. Raz was aided in such activities by one Sharful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan and Masudul Islam alias Jisan, RAB has found.

On the basis of information provided by Mishu and Jisan following their arrest, the elite force conducted multiple drives in Banani on August 4, arresting Porimoni, her manager Ashraful Islam, and Raz and his manager Sabuj Ali in the process.
