Nishtiak Ahmed Rakhi, vice-president of Dhaka Bank and former assistant general secretary of Motharbox Hall at Rajshahi University, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment for dengue in the city’s Green Life Hospital. He was 52.

He breathed his last around 4am on the day.

Nishtiak involved in student politics while studying at Rajshahi University. He was the central vice-president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and senior joint convener of the student organisation’s Rajshahi University unit.

In a message of condolence, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Nishtiak.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, organising secretary Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu and former MP Nadim Mostafa also expressed shock at the death of Nishtiak.
