Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Monday claimed that only 20 percent of the total number of dengue patients in the capital is from Dhaka North area.

“We are trying our level best to curb the dengue patients in our area,” said DNCC Mayor Atiqul while addressing a mass awareness programme on dengue at Bangladesh Club in Uttara.

Atiqul said, “We destroyed Aedes larvae in 960 establishments during anti-mosquito drives from July 27 to August 9. During the drives, 236 establishments’ owners were fined around Tk 50 lakh.”

He claimed that the number of dengue patients decreased in the DNCC area due to the spontaneous participation in the cleanliness activities.

Later, DNCC mayor visited different areas in Uttara to raise awareness about dengue and breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito.  The mayor urged all to be aware about stagnant water and get rid of it on a regular basis.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Selim Reza, Chief Health Officer Md Zobaidur Rahman and others attended the event.
