Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim began his preparation for the upcoming home series against New Zealand at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
Mushfiqur missed the five-match T20I series against Australia after he failed to start the 10-day mandatory quarantine in time, a prerequisite for any cricketer joining the bubble from outside.
Although Bangladesh Cricket Board tried to convince Cricket Australia to reduce the quarantine period after he made himself available, the tourists didn’t agree to comply.
Mushfiqur came to the SBNS in the morning and had an extensive session in the indoor to get ready for the five-match T20I series against the Kiwis, scheduled to start on September 1 in the capital.
Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque, opener Shadman Islam along with pacer duo Kamrul Islam and Shohidul Islam also took part in the individual practice session.
Bangladesh players, who were part of the recent-concluded Australia series, received a two-week break as they are expected to be in bio-bubble again from August 24 for New Zealand series.
Meanwhile, New Zealand Cricket on Monday announced a 15-member squad for their upcoming series against Bangladesh where they didn’t keep any player from their ICC World T20 squad.
Regular skipper Kane Williamson will lead the Kiwis in the World T20 as well as their series against India as they named a different 16-member on the same day.
“The need to safeguard the well-being of our players and support staff is now very real, and we’ve endeavoured to do this by carefully managing their workloads over this winter’s massive playing programme,” NZC Chief Executive David White said.
New Zealand will arrive in Dhaka on August 24 according to the itinerary released by BCB and both teams will start their three-day mandatory room quarantine in the team hotel from the same day.
The visitors will play a warm-up game on August 29 at the BKSP before they play the five T20I matches on September 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10 respectively at the SBNS.
