Bank hours extended to 4 pm

Bangladesh Bank has instructed banks to return to normal banking time, 10 am to 4 pm, for transactions including interbank cheque clearance from Wednesday.

According to the directive issued on Tuesday, the transactions using Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) can be made from 10 am to 4pm while Bangladesh Electronic Funds Transfer Network (BEFTN) will be operated as per the previous schedule.

High value cheques of Tk 5 lakh and above and regular value cheques of less than Tk 5 lakh will continue to be cleared through Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH).

The cut off time for presentation of the high value cheques will be 12 pm while the cut off for return will be 3pm, the BB directive says.

The cut-off time for presentation of the regular value cheques clearing is at 12.30 pm and the cut off for return is 5 pm.

Besides, the payment settlement through the RTGS is allowed till 5 pm only for the cases related with customs duties, fees, bills and other charges.

Md. Badiuzzaman Didar, deputy general manager of Bangladesh Bank (payment system), signed the directive.

It was sent to the top executives of all the scheduled banks for taking necessary steps.
